Get your VA decision, C-file, and medical records.
Start with what you have. A decision-only review can identify deadlines and decision-specific issues now. A complete C-file supports a broader audit of the claim history.
Do not wait for the C-file if a deadline may be running. Request the record, preserve the decision letter, and independently verify the filing deadline. ClaimScope does not extend or file deadlines.
Step 1
Download your VA decision letter
- 1Sign in to VA.gov and open the claim or appeal status tool.
- 2Open the closed claim or decided review.
- 3Choose “Get your claim letters,” then save the complete decision as a PDF.
Online availability varies by benefit and decision type. Keep every page, including the notice, reasons for decision, rating information, and appeal-rights pages.

Request your complete C-file
- 1Open VA’s personal-records request using VA Form 20-10206.
- 2Select the claims file (C-file) and any claim examinations you need.
- 3Ask for the complete electronic claims record—not only VA medical records.
A claim-status page, benefits letter, or medical-record download is not the complete C-file. You may also ask your accredited representative whether they can provide a copy.
Request personal records on VA.govStep 3
Download VA medical records
- 1Sign in to My HealtheVet on VA.gov.
- 2Review and download available notes, laboratory results, imaging information, diagnoses, medications, and care summaries.
- 3Request missing records from the Release of Information office at the VA facility that provided care.
Medical records can support a claim, but they do not replace the C-file, which contains VA decisions, examinations, correspondence, service records, and claim evidence.

ClaimScope inventories the uploaded record and reports unreadable, encrypted, duplicate, or missing items. It should not certify a complete C-file merely because some documents were found.
